The cabinet is ormolu mounted with a molded, lobed, rouge mottled marble top. The front is fitted with two doors that are richly mounted with acanthus and rococo scrolling work. In the center of the doors is a medallion depicting Greek mythological figures surrounded by garlands of flowers. The frieze is richly decorated, and the short cabriole legs show rams' heads and have whorl feet. The restoration/conservation consisted of relacing and re-attaching missing and loose veneer, making several repairs to the case and the legs, cleaning all wooden surfaces, and restoring the polish by lightly sanding and applying shellac through French Polishing. |
