Louis XV Partners Desks
belonging to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art

The desk is ormolu mounted rosewood and kingwood. The top is inset with dark green and brown tooled leather, and the corners have shell-claps mounts. There are six drawers in the pedestals with pierced rocaille lock-plates and handles divided by priced foliate scrolls. On the other side are six blind drawers, whole with a female mask decorating the spines extending to short cabriole legs which end in lion's paw sabots.
The restoration/conservation consisted of relacing and re-attaching missing and loose veneer, making several repairs to the case and the legs, cleaning all wooden surfaces, and restoring the  polish by lightly sanding and applying shellac through French Polishing.
